Sharon Stone, Melissa Joan Hart, Gilles Marini and other fellow celebrities attended the Lupus LA’s 2017 Orange Ball: Rocket to a Cure at the California Science Center in Los Angeles on April 22, 2017. Guests enjoyed dinner, an awards ceremony and live music. Sharon Stone hosted the auction that will benefit the foundation. Lupus LA’s 2017 Orange Ball raised awareness and much-needed funds to find a cure for a disease affects over 1.5 million people in the United States.
Adam Selkowitz received the Loop Award. Selkowitz is the founder of Waterfall Films and serves as Chairman of Lupus LA, he was diagnosed with Lupus at age 16. Adam Selkowitz lives in Los Angeles with his wife Laurie. Marta Bloom and Ron Bloom received the Daniel J. Wallace Founder’s Award, for their persistent efforts in helping medical research and those in need through philanthropy. Ron Bloom co-founded PervasiveTV in 2016, a new entertainment network which focuses on targeted news and entertainment content. Eli Lilly and Company were awarded with the Medical Visionary Award, which recognizes organizations that better the lives of lupus patients. Eli Lilly and Company’s greatest accomplishments are discovering medicines that help people live longer, healthier, more active lives.
Lupus LA fulfills the needs of people suffering with lupus and their families in Los Angeles County and across Southern California. Lupus LA utilizes funds for patient programs, local rheumatology fellowships and research partners at the the Alliance for Lupus Research. Lupus LA has raised over $10,000,000 since 2000 for the cause. Although 1.5 million people in the U.S. suffer from lupus, research shows that almost two-thirds of the public knows little or nothing about the disease.
