UNCF 5th Annual Los Angeles Mayor’s Masked Ball Hosted by Eric Garcetti 


The UNCF Fifth Annual Los Angeles Mayor’s Masked Ball was held on March 11, 2016 at JW Marriott at L.A. Live. This year’s Mayor’s Masked Ball Hosted by Eric Garcetti and UNCF President Michael Lomax PhD. UNCF is the largest minority education organization in the US. This fundraising event’s mission is to raise scholarships to local students.

The attendees where elegantly dressed in long chic gowns and stylish tuxedos – all ornamented with masks. Live music from a orchestra and band swept across the ballroom as the guests enjoyed a dinner, auction and dancing Resonated throughout the night was the UNCF’s motto, “A mind is a terrible thing to waste, but a wonderful thing to invest in.”

Two successful individuals took to the stage to share their inspiring stories of overcoming financial hardships during their youth and persevering through education with support of the UNCF. Carl Ballton (Retired President of Union Bank Foundation) and Helen Easterling Williams, EdD (Dean and Professor of Education at Pepperdine University) were reconized for their dedication to the UNCF and received the UNCF Masked Awards.

Soon afterwards Chris Schauble, the jovial anchor of KTLA, guided the live auction to raise half a million dollars for scholarships. If you would like to learn more about the UNCF or to support the organization, please visit www.uncf.org.
